Default 17s vs 18s ?

Looking at a couple of 03 Boxster S.

One is lower miles and seems a better overall deal at this point.

But the higher miles car seemed to handle better, tighter and with less roll- especially in the rear.

Only difference between the cars is that the higher milieage car has 18 wheels.

Are the 18s causing that difference?

Thanks

Thanks for the good question!

Doesn't show on the dealer website, is it possible to tell form the VIN?

No, the VIN just tells you just the engine, year, and place of manufacture. But it should be listed on the options sticker, will be "M030". If you ask the salesman, I'm sure he'll check for you.

The 18" wheels are a little wider than the 17" and allow for wider tire tread; I assume you weren't pushing it hard enough on the test-drive to be sliding around to notice the difference, though you would notice it on the track.

Not sliding but pushing pretty hard.

I'll try to test drive the 04S this week.

It could be the 18's.. since the 18's were usually equipped with 225 front and 265 rears... while the 17s were usually equipped with 205 front and 255 rear.

Wheels can be changed.. so I wouldn't base the decision SOLEY on the wheels that are on the car when you buy it.

Make sure you check the option label on every car you look at first.

I excluded many cars based on that alone and it has a great deal to do with the overall value of the car

I know several owners that have bought cars without taking the options into account and they usually are sorry later.
