Default Engine bay cooling fan normal operation

Remembering my 944, it would let the cooling fans run for a bit after the car was turned off hot.

It seems with my Boxster that the engine bay cooling fan runs only with the engine running. I'm a bit surprised it doesn't run for a few seconds after the car is off to pump out some of the heat.

Is this normal? Is there a mod to let it run as a funtion of temperature after the engine is off? Does it matter?

Thanks,

Nick

I swear I've heard mine running after the car is off. Maybe I'm just nuts. I'll have to pay closer attention next time. That said, I feel like the fan runs excessively when stationary, but I suppose the packaging of the engine makes it tough to keep cool. And of course that fan is noisy!

I just bought a 2000 Boxter S and noticed that the engine fan turns off with the key. I have also put the key back in and turned it on without starting and had the fan start back up??? That seemed a little wierd, as if it should have kept running when the motor was turned off.

I have a 2000 S as well, the fan is temperature controlled so it will run when need be, even if the engine is off and the key is out. I've pulled into my garage, pulled the key out and on my way inside the fan would come on. However, there are plenty of times when it won't come on.

Tierce is right. The fan will come on by itself no matter you have the key in or not.

Does anyone know at what temperature the fan comes on at?
