Default Throttle by wire

Does anyone have a spec on the "Throttle by wire" system for a 2002 Boxster?

What is the voltage output when the throttle is lifted?

What is the voltage output when the throttle is floored?

I assume a shop manual would have this info for troubleshooting the gas pedal sensor.

I am working on a "robotic shifter" system aka Paddle Shift.

Thanks,

Enzo

emits 2 voltage signals.

Potentiometer 1 emits voltage signals between 0.5v to 4.5v
Potentiometer 2 emits voltage signals between 0.5v to 2.0v.

The ME 7.2 engine control unit monitors the changing voltage signal ranges from both circuits from the pedal rest position to the full load position.

Potentiometer 1 is monitored for primary throttle control while potentiometer 2 is monitored for plausibility.

When the pedal is released the throttle returns to its closed resting position which is mechanically prevented from closing fully. This avoid contact by the valve and the throttle bore, wear, and possibly sticking/jamming.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Default Forgot to iinclude... the info in my 1st reply covers the pedal position...

There is of course signals from 2 potentiometers that are on the throttle and let the engine control unit know its position.

Throttle valve position is signals by two potentiometers.

Potentiometer 1 is 0.5v to 4.5v.

Potentiomter 2 is 4.5v to 0.5 v.

Potentiometer 1 is used by the engine controller to know the throttle position (not the pedal position).

Potentiometer 2 is used for signal plausibility checking of potentiometer 1.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Macster,

I am a little confused. I am asking about the potentiometer(s) on the gas pedal, not the ones on the throttle (mounted on the engine).

Is the potentiometer(s) on the gas pedal what you described?

Thanks again,

Enzo

Default My first post coved the voltages emitted by the pedal potentiometers....

the second covered the voltage emitted by the throttle position potentiometers.

Not sure you can just rely upon the potentiometers from the pedal. They of course only reflect the pedal's position but not the position of the throttle which may not be the same. There can be some disconnect between the two.

For instance sudden throttle lift off -- releasing the gas pedal may not result in the throttle being snapped shut or closed immediately.

Also, for your shifter I think you need to consider the engine speed. Even if pedal released and engine throttle fully closed engine can be spinning at some rpms above idle. Would a downshift result in engine overspeed? And so on.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Hi All,

In my EV conversion project I now need to wire the throttle to my EV controller (will be fitted in the Engine bay on top of the DC motor assy). I have a few questions that I am hoping the knowledgeable people on this forum may be able to help with...

If I am lucky the output is 0-5KOhm and the wires go towards the trunk from where I could measure to make sure and use the resitive output to drive the EV controller.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
