well since you have it apart take the opportunity and snag a b&m shifter from them too (or a 997 shifter box)

give yourself a present for all the pain and suffering

I think I am going to stay stock. most of the people posting about short shifter say they are going back to stock. any leads on the cable kit?

you couldn't convince me to take the b&m out of my car, I love it... even my wife thinks it's better than stock

I've got no idea about the cables though, not sure how tough it will be to run them either

found this on rennlist. it is on a 99 996 but I am guessing it will be similar on the Boxster. The cables are 271 plus tax from the local Porsche dealer.

Don't know what you found but 996 shift cables are a lot shorter than 986.

Ditto...twice......

....although first time she drove it, she thought at first that it wasn't going into gear because the throw was so much shorter.....

I was never a fan of those short shifters. Is it worth it if you grab the wrong gear? That's kinda how I look at it.

To replace the cable is very similar to the 996 but the cables go over the engine, it may be a little tough fishing it out and into the engine bay. There is a power wire there and a little gaurd to protect it from the belt. You should disconnect your battery when you do it.

I think you can upgrade to a 997 shifter for under $200. Call steve at Suncoast Porsche. http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/me...tegory_Code=PO

I got the cables in at the local dealer today. I will be starting the replacement tomorrow. I will take photos and maybe even make a video to put on youtube of the process.
The part was 271 plus tax with the PCA discount.

I got finished about 1 today. I then changed the oil and took it for a test drive. everything feels great. The cable was broken at the point where it transitions to a metal shaft ( near the transmission)
