Default Almost a year later...

and a $&*( economy - What you guys think the price point would be?

Mileage is probably close to 70k now.

And if the engine takes a dump, how much would a replacement cost today?

TIA

My 99 with 80K miles had an IMS failure in December. I thought I was in clear but kablamow. Now I am installing a new engine.

you can buy a used engine all day long at $3500 without looking much. I new engine from Porsche is $9000 IIRC. I bought a used long block for $1250

Thanks!

Once the engine is replaced, can IMS happen again?

Yes. There is no guarantee that Porsche has addressed this issue or made any changes to fix it. Besides having Jake Raby build you a new motor that is better than the replacement/reman motor from Porsche, you are better off getting a used motor. This is for my street car so I'm just putting in a used motor and I'll run it until it breaks.

Yes. It happens all the time. It has happened with less than 7K on a new "reman" engine.

I bought two salvage cars last month and they were both under $7000. Try and sell it for $8000, salvage title kills you.

If your motor blows, rebuild it right - www.flat6innovations.com

I would not pay $10k for a salvaged titled Boxster unless I could pretty much write off that money. But that doesn't mean it's a bad car. Key here is a thorough PPI.

Actually I found out the car really wasn't a truely wrecked 'salvaged' car. The story is, the original owner bought the car for his young son who ended up wacking the car. The father did not want the kid to have the car again, so he had the repair shop inflate the bill so that the insurance company would write it off. The body shop bought the car from the insurance company, fixed and sold to my friend, whose auto repair shop is nextdoor. He in turn bought it for his wife to drive. She complains that it sits too low and it has since become a garage queen. Still is a salvaged car though, regardless......

Sounds like an ok car to own, just be aware of what a salvaged title means if you have to sell it. I'd say you'll have a tough time unloading that at any price. But if you like the car and will keep it for a while, go for it. I would still say "comfortably under $10k" on the price. But that's just my opin.

Good luck!
