Default Gearing differences 00-02 on S models?

Is there any difference between an 02 six speed and an 00 six speed? Are they interchangeable. I bought an 02 S that jumps out of 2nd gear and found a cheap 00 S six speed. Can I just swap them out? Would it be cheaper to have the 02 box rebuilt? I know with a 993, I'd just regear it while I was having it rebuilt. How is the stock gearing on the S? Any real room for improvement? Is that what folks here would do? I searched and did not see anything really on topic. TIA

What's happening on your 986 6-spd. is way too common. It can be repaired but I don't know if it's worth it to be honest,a used 6-spd can be found for $2.5-$3.5k used.

All the 6-speeds are the same.
