Default Boxster Electrical Problems. Please Help!

2001 Boxster 37,000 miles

Having difficulty putting key in ignition at times, and turning to the off/eject position. Doesn't feel normal. No wipers and no airconditioner or heater fan. Syptoms began all at once in heavy rain a few days ago. Fuses seem fine. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

ign switch,
you can replace with the audi part for about 25$ but it will fail again
porsceh no longer offers the switch becasue of that you have to replace with a updated lock housing

Ignition switch has bee a problem for porsche since the 70's.

I was told by a mechanic, never leave extra keys on your Porsche Fob, just the bare minimum to keep the weight off the switch.

Don't know if it's true or not, but (knock wood) I've never had an ignition switch fail, and I've always followed that advice.

Not necessarily. I replaced mine after 6 years of moderately heavy use (and subject ot ALL kinds of weather extremes).

I bought a replacement AND a spare from Autohauz AZ --less than $30 for the pair (German, OEM Equiv).
Unless it's covered under warranty (extended warr), why plow $400+ into it (and have to take the dash apart?

You need to change the complete lock assembly (which does not come with key cylinder)
The part is commonly known as the "ray gun"
