Default Boxster Horn Replacement

I did a search, and if I missed it I apologize in advance.

The horn in my boxster sucks. Here I am, driving this great German car, and it sounds like a buick when I honk the horn.

I bought Hella replacement horns, I've read through the Boxster Factory manual, which indicates I can remove the high tone horn through the sound opening in the bumper, but the front end has to be removed to replace the low tone horn.

Anyone here have a work around for that? Before I start ripping off the front bumper am I missing something?

Yes, you will need to remove the bumper (unless you have teeny tiny hands).

Looks like the bumper comes off to do either one. I can't get my hand, and any kind of tool through the sound opening.

I guess that's next weekend's project.

Clean the radiators while you have the front bumper off.

Yep,

there's a fair amount of stuff caught up in there that's gonna have to go.

Even with the bumper off they were no day at the beach.

However, now that the Hellas are mounted, the car has a proper horn. And boy, was there a bunch of junk caught up in the radiatiors. They are nice and clean now.

I actually ended up mounting the horns behind the front bumper bracket. Just because Porsche put them in that Mission Impossible spot, doesn't mean I have to put the new ones BACK THERE!!

Another thought... there is a known defect in the current Boxster horns. Mine was way too wimpy and I mentioned it to my service person and he told me about it and replaced it free. The new horn is loud and worthy.

I read that you already bought a new one but did you ask your dealer? Though I suppose you are probably out of warranty.

Good luck!

Yup, works all done on the horn.

I'm chasing rattles, squeaks and general dirt now.

Once I get 'er cleaned up, then I'll look at potential mechanical improvements/

What Hella horns did you buy, plug and play?
One of my horns is bad, keeps blowing a fuse.

I got these too, wicked easy to install, though if I had to do it again I'd get the "italian air horn" from Griot's Garage

I have a great air horn on my Dino, scares the crap out of folks when you use it, but it just doesn't sound right on a German car I think.

But it sure does get everyone around you to pay attention!!
