boxsters a girl car?

I gotta put my two cents in here.
For what it's worth, the Boxster is not my favorite Porsche and I LOVE my 944 Turbo S. I do agree, however, with a couple of the Boxster folks that it's completely inappropriate to come to their board (Boxster) and trash the car. As I said, the Boxster is not my FAVORITE Porsche, but I'd take one over a 914, 924, 944 N/A, older 928, etc. I think you get the idea. I'd take it in a MINUTE over the God awful BMW Z3 convertable.
So if, all of a sudden, only women drove the 996 turbo that would make it a chick car? If THAT'S a chick car then dress me in pink!
By the way, a speed yellow Boxster S...now THAT would be pretty high on my list of cars to own!
Just because you personally don't prefer a certain car does not make it any more or less of a good car. You know what they say about opinions...

By the way johnfraser...we don't need bigotry here, or anywhere for that matter.
I don't recall any Americans belittling Scottish folks, or anyone else, here on these boards.

You know what, I think I was talking a little harsh, but the boxter guys started it. Who ever said one little thing about girls and boxters, the boxter guys went off on them. It was just bound to happen. I'll agree to stop telling the truth if they agree to face it. There are many women driving boxters around more than any other porsche on the road. Oh and believe me, there will always be more women driving boxters than 996 TT's. I think i've had enough. See ya.

Just to be clear, I didn't start this thread, nor did I make the first response. I did, however, defend the Boxster against a certain 951 owner who is under the delusion that the 944 Turbo, excuse me, 951, (joke lost in previous message obviously) is a better performing car than the Boxster S. To which I'll always get the counterargument "but look at all the mods I made to my 944, it rulez!!" yada yada yada.
Hands down the Boxster S is an all around better car than the 951, but it should be, Porsche engineers spent more time developing and testing the Boxster and it benefits from technology advancements. This doesn't mean that I or any other Boxster owner needs to go around slamming on the 951, but it also means we don't need to be taking any "guff" from them either.
You can read all about my modifications and see pictures of a Speed Yellow Boxster S on my website at http://www.smiley.net/boxster/ and if you are in the Topeka area on Sept 7th and 8th you are welcome to see the car on the track first hand.
I too am through with this thread as I see no reason to give fuel to someone who wants to bash other Porsches. One factual correction though, the highest percent of female ownership of a Porsche was the 914, followed by the Boxster, then again a lot more Boxsters have been made than 951's so the law of averages says more women will drive them.
I don't care, Shirley MulDowney (sp?) is a woman and she kicked a lot of guy's butts back in the day... I find that anyone who says "X car is a woman's car" is just jealous that they don't own one and are trying to find some way to slam on the car. This holds true for the Miata, BMW X5, and a lot of other vehicles...

Most track guys know its all in the driver...I assume that you too know this???
My mom drives a '00 boxster...She likes it because of how it drives, complains its not much quicker than her volvo 850 turbo sometimes...but its definetely a fun little car and a fantastic autox car...although she's yet to let me find that out for myself..
It's a nice car, sounds great...but if you wanna go fast for little $$ in a Porsche....go for the 951...or a 914
And **** talking has no place among fellow Porsche owners...

I hope none of the TT owners visit this forum and reply. They'll probably clean house on each and every one of us
Here's my two cents, The boxster is a great car. I enjoyed mine alot and still regret selling it. I don't think I thought it was a girl's car and I still never think of it this way even if I saw a girl driving one. I love all Porsche's and never try to think of an owner of a perticuler model as anything but a Porsche owner. I wave to each and I don't mind if I don't get an acknowledgment.
I guess we all would love to drive the fastest, most expensive and hottest looking Porsche out there but then reality must set in and we all have to make our desicions based on our finanaces. There's no reason at all to start slamming each other

Pride eh?
Well, I must say this particular topic is good for blowing away some old fashion views.
Boxster 3.4 - we have had discussions about your car and you know my opinion about 986s. IMHO, they are better handlers compared to a 996 C2 Cab. I have owned both and I had more FUN in the 986 2.5ltr than in the 996 C2 Cab 3.4ltr. I can understand why it has wider market appeal.
The girls car 'thing' is interesting - the car is certainly easier to drive compared to previous Porsches therefore it can be argued that it has broader market appeal. Porsche intended for that and it paid off BIG TIME.
A few years ago, I was invited to test-drive the 996 Coupe and the 986 at a race track by my local dealer who had just received my deposit for the yet to be released 986 - I was extremely excited. Upon arrival at the racetrack, I found 11 other guests of Porsche who had put down a deposit for the new range cars – a 986 or 996. In total, there were 8 women and just 4 men including myself, hmmm. So there was the evidence. The current range Porsche indeed has a wider market appeal. All of us at the track was a fully pledge soon-to-be Porsche owner. Out on the track, the women were just as aggressive as the men were - good for them were! Having FUN is the name of the game.
I think the topic starter is getting roasted when he is merely pointing out that the GREAT Boxster has a far wider market appeal than us men care to acknowledge. I for one want to see more women enjoying the pleasures of motoring – whatever they drive. Infact, a girl friend of mine drives a TVR 5ltr Chimera – great curves…and so has she!

Hey can you guys tell me what I should add to my Ford Focus to make it go faster. I was thinking about a chip and some new headers. I want to smoke that civic down the street.
Oh wait... this isn't a ford focus forum. Sure feels like it though...

Buy the new Ford Focus RS - Autocar got it round Goodwood faster than a 2.7 Boxster
Interestingly enough though they rated it less than the Boxster, as was the 996!! The only car they rated better was the Lamboghini Murceiligo ( or whatever)and the Boxster was quicker than the Lotus Elise so perhaps I should stop calling Boxsters slow since I have trouble with Elise`s on trackdays (but then again that may be me)

To answer the original question...
USA Today recently ran a story on "fun car" demographics, according to JD Power and Associates.
Boxster Owners
Average age: 43.
Married: 68%
Male: 83%.
Average household income: $196k.
The only car with a higher Male % was the Corvette with 86% male ownership.

Glad somebody was reading something besides these posts. I guess that settles that.
Saw a brand spanking new Boxster S with 18s on it today. A guy was driving it. Car looked pretty sweet and I'd have no problems driving it. Don't know where my hockey bag would go though....

I am just beginning my third week with my brand new Boxster S. I LOVE this car!
I'm male and if you want to call it a 'chick' car, or slam it, so be it. I LOVE this car! And you are going to have to pry it out of my cold dead hands (probably soon . Ok, so I stole that line from the NRA, shoot me... no wait I was kidding...
BTW, did I tell you, I LOVE this car!!!
