Craigg,

This is getting richer and richer... now his car is the 2nd fastest car ever around the 'ring, second only to a 911 GT2, all of this with only 250kw and 2.6L to boot!

I wonder if he has some stats to prove that with or if it is just another story that his daddy told him? You know I could really damage his psyche by challenging him to a race around the 'ring, what would he tell his dad after a Boxster handed him a butt whoop'n?

(Obviously he missed the fact that I was joking about the new Skyline being the same as the new Infinity G35, but oh well.)

I can almost hear it now... "Daddy, I don't have the fastest car, I can't be "cool" without a fast car, I have to tell everyone how cool I am, therefore I need a fast car! Daddy, will you buy me a fast car? I don't make enough flipping burgers to buy my own!

Ahhhh the sounds of adolescence.... the next thing out of his mouth is likely to be "Chicks Dig My Car!" You're right, I'm sure they look at those neon tubes underneath, flashers on the valve stems, and large MUGEN sticker on the windshield and laugh...

Time for another toast to a riceboy!

BTW, Nurburgring records are available here:

http://www.nuerburgring.de/eng/mythos/rekorde.htm

Don't see a Skyline on there... hmmmm

Oh this is such a crock, here's the info on the car:

The Nissan Skyline GT-R. A contemporary living legend and a tale to frighten Porsche drivers with. Shown here in its current R-34 incarnation and V-Spec guise, the only car to set an unofficial lap time of under 8 minutes at Germany's notorious Nurburgring, leaving many of the world's top marques standing. Powered by a 2.6 litre twin turbocharged straight six engine and also featuring 4-wheel drive and rear wheel steering. In addition, if the rear wheels should lose grip, a system called "ATTESSA ETS PRO" (which stands for, wait for it, Electronic Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split...phew!) will automatically divert torque to the front wheels! A truly phenomenal vehicle.

Year: 1998 Status: Currently in production
Engine: 2.6 litre twin turbocharged straight six. Power: 280 bhp
0-60: 5.2 secs, Top speed: Electronically limited to 155 mph.

Now here are the records for the Nordschliefe circuit at Nurburbring:

6:25.80 Lap record Stefan Bellof Porsche 956 1983 [1]
7:32.52 Road-legal car record Wolfgang Kaufmann Gemballa Porsche 600 2001
7:46.0 Production car record Horst von Saurma Porsche GT2 (Standard) 2001
7:49.70 Motorcycle record Helmut Daehne Honda RC30 1993

Now from the Nurburgring website:
Northern Loop historical records
Class Driver Car Time Speed Event
Formel 1 Clay Regazzoni Ferrari 7.06,4 192,8 km/h GP von Deutschland 1975
Gruppe C Derek Bell/Stefan Bellof Porsche 956 6.25,91 194,33 km/h 1.000-km - Rennen 1983
Motorcycle Marco Lucchinelli Suzuki 500ccm 8.22,2 163,6 km/h GP von Deutschland 1980

Notice that a motorcyle that turned an 8 minute 22 second lap around the course averaged 163 mph. Since by Nissan's own admission the Skyline is limited to 155mph, there's no way it could have broken the 8 second barrier.

This "unofficial" claim of breaking 8 seconds will have to remain.

What is even MORE interesting is that MY Boxster runs 0-60 FASTER than the Skyline GTR, AND has a higher top speed.

Given the same driver, and I'll choose Derek Bell as my representative, MY Boxster would kick the Skyline's **** off the track at Nurburgring!!

All while listening to Derek's favorite CD no less...

...and there once was a Subaru whose name was Rex,
a Porsche wannabe too. Skyline, Primera, whatever. Don't care, don't want. I won't bash them, or Ferraris, or any other car being "not worthy" (well, maybe a Trabant or Yugo...) but I don't intend to get one. Our young friend here has a lot to learn about a mature discussion of merits. And getting facts straight...

Now that G35, hmmm. That could be something to consider. Very nice car but a long waiting list to get, I hear. Sort of like the Altima was last year. I have a Maxima and it is a great car so I may go take a look when its time for a replacement.

I driven a couple of Modded Skylines R33 and R34 at the track(both 400bhp by middlehurst)and suspension mods.

They are quick. The r34 gets more praise for its handeling than the R33. although the R34 is pretty good, its not as entertaining to drive as the Porsche, less steering feel, chassis feel and the throttle response was not as good.

The cars do grip well and although I was unfamilar with the R34 I managed to put in a respectable performance. Unfortunatly the interior is pure nissan and really needs sorting out although you do get a great big computer screen that tells you all sorts of things.

I had the M3 with me that day and not the porsche, the M3 measured up surprisingly well despite the skylines being quicker in a straight line, the M3 managed very well through the corners.

Whilst the were a bit of fun and these ones with the extra power were really quite quick. I wouldn't consider one over the M3 or the Boxster s, I just didn't find them quite as good a drive.

This was by and far the most entertaining thread I have ever read on any forum. Man, some of you sure got your panties in a twist...er, boxers.

Keep in mind, everything is relative. And I do hope as a girl, I do the marque proud.

Careful Ken there are lot of Aussies on this list and I am one of them. BS is not controlled by national boundries. Sadly we have two people claiming to be posting from Australia who are totally full of it. A large proportion of people are prepared to identify themselves and prove who they are if necessary. I would not take too seriously these two. This Mr Ferrari is new but the other one has been causing trouble all over the forum. He is a child and is best ignored. They think they can remain anonymous and hide behind the keyboard but people will find out who they are one day.
Oh by the way, J959 told me a while ago that his 993 rolling chassis was onboard a ship on its way from the USA to Australia. I think the name of this ship was the Prestige. This was the chassis that was to be converted to take a Lexus engine, a Caynenne engine and a few other variants. It is all in the archives but personally I would not bother, they are truly not worth the effort.
Ciao,
Adrian

PS: The Prestige for those who do not know was the oil tanker that broke in half and sank off the Spanish coast recently.

You know, Robyn, you are right! We need to get some perspective in this thread.

There is nothing wrong with the Boxster being a girl's car...or a guy's car. Just not a dweeb car - and from the sounds of things, we don't have to worry about the dweebs because they drive something else. Someone made the point that Boxster owners don't seem to have a need to go to other Boards and slam the cars or drivers there - which speaks volumes to the confidence and passion we have in what we drive. The main opponents seem to have a need to find all kinds of put-down points, whatever they can in apparent desperation, to incite one faction against another. If you follow this thread, it has really cycled through many different issues - but we all come back to the same thing - we are passionate about the experience of driving one of or maybe even the finest sports cars in the world.

Simply put, if one needs to be a "girl" to drive a Boxster, then I'll hitch up my silk panties and head out in one. We should all be so lucky.

And by the way, Winston Churchill wore silk underwear, held the beaches and beat the bad guys. Not a bad role model.
