That's crap. Stated by someone who hasn't owned an older generation Porsche, obviously. And has no idea of the value of money. PM me if you need an explanation - no sense in prolonging the agony of this tedious thread.

Hey Guys,

What an entertaining thread. I must come over here more often.

All Porsches have something good about them and that's why over 90% of the cars manufactured survive to this day. Some are quicker, some are uglier and some are easier to drive than others (my wife loves driving my 993 but would not go near my 3.2).

In the UK you see alot more women driving Boxsters because they are easy to drive and relatively cheap and why not!

Cheers,

David

PS I do agree with Christer that the value of a car does not relate proportionately to the enjoyment of ownership and driving. I would turn that around to say that the pounds per smile ratio increases the cheaper the car. Thus a nice S2 or turbo 944 has to be the buy of the century considering what you get.

Boy Weissach is stirring the pot isn't he/she?

My opinion of the 944/951 can be found in another thread in this forum so I won't rehash it here, but I do NOT find them old and crusty looking.

..Well unless they've been parked under someone's deck for the last 15+ years with moss growing on them and small animals using them for a home... (saw one like that recently)

This thread is getting a bit tiresome but I guess we are shooting for some sort of length record, thus I'm happy to do my part!

Well, I for one would like to thank both deadlyhunter for starting this thread and NetManiac for starting the "Boxster/S vs. ???..." thread. For the few weeks before that, there was a lull with very little happing on this forum. Up to that point, as I recall, Ken2KS was pretty much carrying the ball with posts and photos and updates, etc. These controversial posts not only got things moving within the forum, they attracted Porschephiles from the various other Rennlist forums (forae?), and it appears that these people continue to monitor and contribute to threads, here.

Those threads really seem to have brought this forum into the overall community in a big way.

And a point of potential interest in tying together the 944 and Boxster. The penultimate rendition of the 944 was the 968, and it appears to me that this model may have paved the way for the Boxster in terms of ground-proofing market research. Why such a claim? Fully HALF of the 968s sold in the US during their short run ('92 - '95) were ... convertibles! Now that must have given Porsche confidence (other manufacturers' experience notwithstanding) that they were on the right track with the development of the Boxster.

-----[Warning! Silly nonsense follows! Proceed with caution! ... there must have been something in my Wheaties this morning]-----
Now, to stretch this even further, just as they moved the location of the engine from in front of the driver to behind the driver, they moved the '6' in the model designation from in front of the '8' in 968 ('8' being similar to a symbol for 'a person' in some written scripts) to behind it in 986. Coincidence? I think not! (kidding!) (Now, if only the 968 had come with a flat-6 engine, I could really make this allegory work!)
-----[End of silly nonesense]-----

Although I had sworn off this ridiculous thread, as an owner of both an old crusty 944 and a new crust-free Boxster S, I feel compelled to respond.

First of all, the notion that 944's are "crusty looking" is highly amusing. In fact, it's the funniest thing I have heard today. It is remarkably silly and has given me quite a few laughs, so I thank you for that.

According to Excellence magazine, the 944 is the best "bang for the buck" Porsche experience you can find. In fact, the 944 Turbo can be easily modified to be quite a beast. And the NA provides plenty of fun, too. They are just fun to drive.

Ironically, these days I see more Boxsters than 944s in my hometown, so the 944 appears to be the more rare car. A clean well maintained 944 is quite a pleasant sight to behold.

And finally, the Boxster and 944 do share much in common, at least with regards to their purpose within the Porsche model line.

Me, I love 'em both.

But man, you must have like the veins in your head bulging! <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />

You know it really makes me wonder if you have A porsche at all. People who talk alot are usually full of S-hit.

Im sure you will feel the need to reply, however i dont feel the need to continue reading this thread <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />

Just wanted to say i agree the boxster is a girly car. My dad bought one for his girlfriend, then after he dumped her he sold it and bought a Ferrari F355 because the boxster was too slow.

Danger - Just trying to keep up with your rather silly comments. No bulging veins, just enjoy tossing a little mud back your way.

You can see my car at: <a href="http://home.mchsi.com/~dlewis1340/index.html" target="_blank">http://home.mchsi.com/~dlewis1340/index.html</a>
I put a note there for you.

My web page is terrible thank you. I'm too busy driving the car to make it cool. Maybe this winter.

Your dad? YOUR DAD?? Who has an old Ferrari (the 360 is out now son) And YOU have an opinion that is relevant? Has this board become the place where the children of car owners have an opinion that even matters?

Come back when you grow up, little Mr. Ferrari. Or can afford a car of your own.

As for cranky 944 owners, your insecurity is showing - again. Hatchback, Dodge.

What's next? Yo mama???

Craigg,

It's OK, Mr. Ferrari is just telling us that he doesn't know how to drive. Anyone who thinks the Boxster is slow and crap obviously doesn't know how to drive well enough to make the car perform. Probably another "slam the pedal to the floor and hold on" driver.

Nissan Skyline, yeah it's the same thing as an Infinity G35...

Actually I saw a Skyline GT-R get whooped up on by some real low $ import at an autocross once, it was a hoot... driver makes all the difference...

Actually its not the same as an infiniti G35, try 2.6l twin turbo, around 250kw, with 4wd. Laps the Nurburgring in under 8 minutes (in fact the only car faster around there is the 911 GT2, now THATS a man's car!)

..and how would YOU know what a MAN would like?

As Ken says, you obviously wouldn't have clue based on your comments so far. Why don't you go to the Nissan Skyline board and bash Boxsters. Maybe someone there either cares or is visiting with THEIR daddy's car, too.
