Post Mobil 1 Oil question...

The only Mobil 1 synthetic I can find is 10w-30 (as well as 5, 15, and 20 wt.), but the 10-30 doesn't match the API standards given in my owner's manual (SH). The manual also recommends 10-40, not 10-30, but I can't find any Mobil 1 in that weight. What's the deal?

Thanks.

Depending on where you are local retailers decide what they consider sesonal or what sells most. locate a local whosale outlet and you should be able to locate the weight you want. I was able to find even the hard to get 0-40 European formula. Good luck.

How does one find an oil distributor? I'm in the Milwaukee area and would like to buy several cases of 0W-40 for my 3 Porsches and the wife's Mercedes.

You have the tool right in front of you. Try a global search for oil distributors or oil wholesalers. If that dosent get it I will give you the one I use in california dont know if they will ship or not.

Porsche came out with a TSB for the Boxster oil on June 1, 2001. Mobil 15W-50 is no longer on the list. 0W-40 and 5W-40 are. 0W-40 is now the factory fill, but it used to be 10W-40. I think it is because customers were complaining about lifter noise on cold start up and and you get better fuel economy with 0W. If you check the Mobil site 0W-40 is not sold at the retail level, only by Mercedes and Porsche dealers. But you can find a local distributor, and there is in fact one near me, but I continue to use 15W-50 here in sunny California.

The other approved oils are: Castrol 5W-50, Sun Oil 5W-40, Texaco 5W-40, Valvoline 5W-30, all synthetic oils.

You can find me here. <a href="http://www.babblers.org/board.htm" target="_blank">http://www.babblers.org/board.htm</a>

The Mobil One 0W40 can be purchased through any Porsche dealership. I verified this why buying 12 quarts for an oil change three months ago at my local dealership in Evansville, Indiana. I have also heard that it can be purchased through Kawaski (sp?) motorcycle and personal watercraft dealerships.
