Post What is the secret to refueling my Boxster?

OK this must sound stupid, but I am am new boxster owner (98 model 2.5 ltr), and the dealer did not include the owners manual with my Boxster. When refueling the car, the gas pump handle constantly trips so that I can only get about 25 cents worth of gas into the car before the pump handle trips off because of the backpressure. It takes a full 10-12 minutes to refuel an empty tank. Is there some trick to venting the tank so that I can refuel in a timely fashion?

Back the nozzle off about an inch. Boxsters are well known for being balky to fuel, but if you insert the nozzle less than all the way, it seems to work (on mine at least!). HTH

I'll second Paul's comments. Pull it out to just barely hang on the fill pipe. Should work just fine. Boxsters aren't the only Pcars with this problem, by the way!

Also, you may want to find a different station. The cutoff point is set by the pump nozzle, not the Boxster. One station near me has pumps that cut off at the slightest hiccup - takes forever to fill my Boxster, but another station's nozzles work just great - place it in and it goes great!

It's also helpful, I've heard, to turn the handle upside down when pumping gas. I have the same problem in my 911SC - I just don't insert the handle all the way and it seems to work fine.

If you have problems with different pumps at different stations then there was a TSB issued on 8/12/99 for this problems. The fuel hoses inside the gas tank are too close to the fuel filler neck so that they obstructs fuel going in which causes the pump to shut off prematurely. Jeff

Default Gas fill

I've found that holding the nozzle sideways (handle towards the back of the car) works well too. And when the nozzle does cut off, it's full ;-) don't try to put more in it or you will get splash-back.
