Post What MY Boxster to get for $30K-$35K?

Hello All,

I am visiting from the 996 board and have a friend looking for a Boxster. He has a range of $30,000 to $35,000 to spend.

1. What model year with mileage do you think will fit into his budget?

2. Should he look for Boxster or Boxster S?

3. Is there any particular year to stay away from?

4. Does anyone know of a good car for sale?

Thanks for your help.

If possible you want to get a '00 or later boxster. In that model year Porsche gave them an extra .2L of displacement, which helps a bit.

Get the newest, highest model Boxster you can afford. Its the same rule that applies for every other Porsche. (For the most part)

A year ago my mom picked up an '00 with 7k miles for ~$34k...
I figure by now you might be able to find a boxster S for $35k...

He would probably consider both. It is actually for his wife. What is the $$$ difference? Is one more desirable than the other for a woman/resale?

Frankly, I'm happy with the standard model (2.7) and a 5-speed. No, I can't do much bragging around other Boxster owners, but that suits me fine. Over time, the more expensive cars sell for more. So, if and when that time comes, I'll loose some over the S. I owned my 911 for 15 years and it wasn't a hot rod, just a clean stock car. Do get the newest you can afford. That's good advice on Boxsters anyway.

At least a 2000 Boxster S, if you can swing it a 2001 or 2002 would be even better, although the 02's may be hard to find sub-35K.

You can get a really nice 2000 S for under 35K these days.

I sold my BW/SB 2001 S with 4,700 miles for $40,000. The IRS wanted to be paid. I still have my OB/SB 99 GT that I'm working on (turbos, 6-spd)

You can find them out there. Buy an S, its not much diff in price, and a huge diff in performance.
