Post Boxster tranny bolt patterns

Does anyone have any information regarding the bolt patterns on Boxster transmissions, both 5 and six speed?
Would a Boxster 5 or 6 speed tranny bolt up to a 993 3.6 or any 996 motor?
I have a friend who can pick up a new engine for his blown up Boxster engine. He found a pristine 993 3.6 for $5k. Will it work?

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

it would be much easier to use the996 engine as there will be considerable hurdles to overcome with the 993 engine including the cooling of etc i have done the 996 conversion myself and it is not to hard . the performance gain is really quite staggering but yes the gearbox bolt patterns are the same

Cool

The 996 motor will bolt up to a Boxster gearbox and work well. Definatley worth the upgrade.
The 996 gearbox is in a different housing and will not work the other way around in the car.

Sorry to bring bad news, but 993 motor will not fit a Boxster tranny, 5 or 6 spd without some adapter being made. Then you have the problem of starter location. On a 996 and Boxster, it sits above the engine block. A 993 has the starter mounted to the trans, above the differential. The best thing to do is buy a good used 996 motor (Readily available for $5,000 to $7,500) and swap the external parts. E-mail me and I will be glad to help with advice. Its basically a remove & reinstall procedure.
