ya Boxster..but why specifically...
Hello to all-
I was wondering if someone could give me a brief overview of the 2k Boxster (base) v. a 2k BMW m roadster; both with approximately 50k miles in the 22 thou range. Which one would you pick and why? Does insurance and maintenance play a role in your decision?
Thanks-

The Boxster S vs M Roadster would be a much better fight, but between the two you asked about, the M Roadster is certainly faster although the Boxster 2.7 is a vastly superior handler. What is more important to you? Also, maintenance will be pretty similar. For me, going from a 1997 M3/2 to a 2001 Boxster S made my insurance go down by a sizable number (a couple hundred $). I'd bet the base Boxster is substantially cheaper to insure than an M Roadster, but check with your insurer to be sure.

Interesting about the insurance Ett-
Yes, the M has the speed advantage; but does this outweigh the Boxsters style and handling? Of course, this answer is subjective.
Don't you love shopping for a car? There is always a counter argument...

Tango,
I'd suggest the 2k Boxster over the Z3M.
Sure, the BMW has a great motor in the M. But there are also a lot of other cars out their too with lots of grunt, like the C5. The Z3M goes fast in a fashion in spite of its very limited chassis, largely corrected in the Z4.
But the Porsche is fundamentally a superior sportscar. The mid-engine chassic has fantastic dynamics that will reward you with smiles as you start to explore its high limits. Subjectively, the Boxster looks great on your driveway.
One surprising bonus -- the two trunks acutually make the Boxster a great car to take on long trips. Something you can't say about many true sports cars.
So, get the Boxster and become part of Rennlist as an owner!

I'd be curious to hear what Z3M owners think of their car on a daily basis. (..and I do mean rainy-snowy-crappy weather-stop-and-go-traffic daily driving) I know it sounds silly, but I love my Boxster over the other Pcars I've owned because of how it handles the day to day...but still deliver the fun when I want it. (Which is often!)
