Post BoxsterS (new transmission)

Bought a '00 Boxster S over the weekend (a really good deal). The chassis and interior are in excellent shape. The engine and suspension are in good shape (visually). Carfax came out with a clean history.

One thing that stands out is the fact that it looks like it has a new transmission and new half shafts. Is there any reasons this might have been done (other than damage to the tranny due to pilot error)? Anyone know of any transmission issues with the 6 speed?

The car has a little over 49K miles on it.

I have it over at a local shop for a complete checkup.

Problems have occurred with tranny's in Europe but Porsche won't let on what the problems are - they simply replace the box. Friend runs a non-franchised garage and repairs rather than replaces - the boxes are almost standard VW/Audi, even the parts pages are identical.

Did a bit of research and turns out that there is a factory alert on the throw out bearing with the '00 Boxter-S. Hardly a reason to swap the whole tranny and half shafts, but its the only documentation I've been able to find.
