the only reason the 986/996 is falling in prices is because the used car market for new type cars is flooded...there are so many cars coming of lease, and such good deals on new cars that used cars are taking the hit(all used cars)...lets not forgot the economy..we live in a different time as far as purchasing a car...i wouldnt compare the 944 to the 986

I don't see the 986 going racing anytime soon. Maybe because it doesn't need to to be a category leader, but traditionally Porsche cars were developed on the race track, not in the marketing department.

We do not live in a diffrent time as far as the economy is concerned. We were in a very similar situation in the 80's. So in reality the market isnt affecting the deflation of the 986/996. The problem the boxster is facing is the same as the 944's mass production. The 996 faces a compleate other deflation problem.

Also what other cars coming off lease would affect the used market of the boxster? I don't see any other used cars of similar years that were comparable to the boxster. Also the 944 prices really haven't changed since the decline of the economy.

The used Boxster is now competing with used S2000's, used Z3's, new Miatas and Z4's, new 350z's, new G35 coupes as well as a host of BMW's and with declining prices, 993, 964 and 911's. It's not a matter of "comparable" vehicles for some, but "comparable" prices or more concisely, comparable "out of pocket" expense. The 944 also had competition from the RX7 and the 300Z as well as the Camaro and Mustang.

I want the 986 to be equal the 944? LOL (first of all, that's not proper english)

Too bad that's the opposite. The boxster will never even get close to as equal as a 944.

LoL, autobahn why would the 944 owners want the 986 to be priced the same as the 944? that would be horrible for our resale. Also the 986 is alot newer and seeing that 944's are going to be around for a very very long time. Still since they are so greatly built the boxster will never hit the base 944 price range. The boxster will however have to fight it out with the 968 and the 944s2 cabriolet and don't forget the 951s

You hit the nail here. All cars are suffering faster depreciation. Try to sell a used MW, MB or Audi that is out of warranty. Good Luck!
