Default Keyless all of a sudden stopped working

My keyless remote was working yesterday and isn't today. I opened up the key and replaced the battery, but that did nothing. Is the keyless on the same fuse as the power locks? (because those still work from the button inside)

What else should I check?

First, try your other remote. If that doesn't work the problem is possibly the alarm. This will need checking with a Porsche tester.

We currently have a 2002 Boxster with both remotes not working: the ciruit boards were cracked.

You might need to replace both remotes if neither work.

May have found the problem:

The part with the arrow on it is cracked clean off at the base:

Anyone know what that is? It says 164 in big numbers, then some smaller ones I can't read. It's jammed under the battery tray and I won't get a better look until I unsolder it.

Steve, did your LED flash while pressing the button(s)? If so, did the trunk release work? Unfortunately I've known of many remotes that have failed(my 996 included), yet very few that were able to be revived...and none that were successfully repaired by resoldering components.

It's the circuit board cracked, you could try and repair. At the end of the day it's old and should be replaced... check your other key too.

Yes, the LED works. No, neither trunk release works. Unfortunately I lost my other key last Tuesday, haven't found it yet. I dug this key out (hadn't used it in 18 months or so) and the keyless only worked for a day before it failed.

Hmph.

I'll try fixing it, failing that the guts for the keyless is about 140 bucks from the dealership.
