Default Exhaust swap

I picked up a 04 S exhaust and want to put it on my 01 S, Is there a DIY instructions for R & R of the Exhaust? any reason I cant do this myself?
I assume it's a direct swap.

The 03+ has a reworked exhaust as far as I know, also the tips look much better.

So, the question remains, easy for me to swap?

put the spoiler up
push the pins throuh
remove the push pins
remove the spoiler
remove 2 6 mm allens holding the spoiler iteslf
remove 3 phillps screws on the top
remove the bumperettes 1 6 mm allen in each
remove 6 torx screws and 2 phillps screws from the bumper cover
remove 2 16mm bolts from the bumper support
unbolt 3 13 mms (2 nuts 1 bolt) on each side of the exasut to manifold pipes
remove 4 13mm nuts at the rear of the exasut hanger
remove 2 13 bolts from the bottom of the exhuast hanger
pull the exhuast off
install is the reverse

I always take it off, I have seen guys do it with out taking off the cover, I feel that doing it with the bumper cover on is such a pita and you have to use a pry bar to push the cover back isnt the right way to do things.
besides it only takes about 5 minutes to get the cover off

I've had my exhaust off two or three times without removing the bumper cover and it is a bit of a pain to get to the two upper bolts attaching the upper horizontal mount to the muffler. It's not the worst - it's just a bit fiddly. Brad, I'm not sure what you mean by using a pry bar to push the cover back. You mean the bumper cover? Not necessary...

That said, next time I pull the exhaust I'm going to pull the bumper cover and see if it is indeed easier.

I do not think that is true. 03+ factory sport exhaust was different. That is for certain, and it did have the same tips as the S exhaust. But, it was NOT the S exhaust. Perhaps the S exhaust was a little tweeked. But, nothing compared to the PSE.

The '03+ "S" exhaust was definitely different from the earlier models. The tips are larger and round (not slash-cut). It has a slightly different sound. Slightly louder at low RPM (basically idle and just above idle) to make it sound throatier. Other that that, it looks and sounds the same as the earlier mufflers.

Mark I put a 03 S exhaust on my 2000 base car without removing the rear bumper.

Save your self the pain and remove the bumper!!

Imagine having your arms all twisted into and around structures trying to get the upper
two bolts off and then getting a charlie horse in a bicep

Porsche made a sound change starting with the 03 S exhaust..more
throatier > 2500 rpm plus nice big tips that polish up nice

The price of admission for this minor upgrade was right, if nothing else.. I like the bigger tips.

I'll give a vote for don't bother taking off the rear bumper cover, it'll add an hour of work for little, if any, benefit, there's no need for a pry bar either, the old mulffler falls right out

you may want to consider picking up a new set of clamps, sleeves, and bolts, and perhaps a bentley manual, I replaced mine in about 3 hours, removing the rusted out clamps from the non-Porsche exhaust took most of that time, the Porsche parts didn't have any hint of corrosion on them and came apart painlessly, an OEM to OEM muffler swap can probably be done in less than 90 minutes alone

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I'll stick to using my method (bumper cover on) as I never thought it was that tough.

You guys must have extra joints I don't have or something. Now I have an English roadster which needs three elbows and multi link tools to get at things. So, I've certainly been there. But, I spent maybe 20 minutes trying to get at my upper bolts on my '00 S when I put in the 03 PSE. I could never get a good grasp, and not enough to think I could tighten it well. So, I pulled the bumper. Took no time, very simple, and made the muffler swap soooo easy.

My vote is for taking off the bumper.
