I was wondering what was involved in repairing the front bumper on a 986. There are small punctures into the plastic, through the paint and also a couple of creases. The previous owner bumped the front end with a liscense plate holder in place and the tips of the screws and license plate frame contacted the bumper. Is the re a method to smooth and fill these creases and punctures?

Flexible Bondo and paint job or new bumper.

 

When I had my second '99, I had a similar problem. I decided to "update" my car with an '03 bumper...it's a direct swap. Or, you can use factory early 996 bumpers to change your appearance if you want. A lot of people like the early 996 GT3 bumpers on a Boxster.

In lieu of any of that, as John says there's nothing special about a Boxster front bumper than typical repair processes can't fix. Just remember it's a flexible unit, so you'll need to plan accordingly.

 

Check out the duramix line they work great. I don't know what material the cover is made of but I would guess duramix 4058 would work great.

 

It's a great excuss for upgrading if you have some flaws in your old bumper
