Coolant Reservoir Update - What point did Porsche change the design of the Reservoir?
I read off of a local shop's tech website that Porsche had updated the coolant reservoir tank on the Boxster models. At what year or point did they update this? Was this update to fix the fragile coolant reservoir on the earlier cars?

Per the tech site I read:
"All earlier coolant tanks, 996.106.147 .03/.04/.06 have been superseded to this 996.106.147 .07 tank. "

Didnt Porsche have a recall on the tank screw on cap for the coolant reservoir tank???
Something about it lets too much pressure build up in the reservoir thus bursting it?
I read somewhere if you take the cap off and turn it upside down, it should have a rounded area protruding
from it if its the upgraded cap.

The tank has been revised several times. The cap was revised once to keep the build-up from happening. If your coolant reservoir cap ends in .00 you need the new cap ending in .01 to help keep from killing your tank too.

The tanks in the early Boxsters and 996 have been superceded to a different part number. 996's 99 thru early 01's and Boxster thru 01's oroginal tanks develop leaks. Many have been changed, I was told the new tank is from a new vendor, stronger material.

Either way, get it done asap.

There has never been a tank or cap recall.

So for 2007 a tank is now in the engine compartment, like the Cayman.
Bet it is still made by Geiger....
All that warranty work down the drain for the time being until the Cayman style tank leaks.

Here you go:
Coolant System
Coolant access is from the trunk. Leaks can happen due to a cracked coolant reservoir or hose, or via a worn coolant cap.
Since first introduced, the cap has been redesigned. The old style (left) can vent coolant at a lower temp/pressure than specified after some years of use.
The new version (right) has been revised and will last many more years without dumping the coolant.
New part number should be 996 106 447 01 and lists for $13.00 (2005 price)
If you can't get it done under warranty or FOC, suggest you buy yourself one for Christmas
