Help fueling problem
Out of a clear blue sky this AM I tried to put fuel in my 2000 S and it just wouldn't go in, in fact it appeared to spit it out back at me. It took about 10 minutes to get through two gallons and I think one of those gallons wound up on the ground. My mechanic said to try a different pump which I haven't yet had the chance to do. Any suggestions? I know there is some sort of check valve at the fuel filler neck, is that my problem? I wasn't able to find a thread with exactly this problem, hence this post.

Diagnostic: When you try to fill the gas tank, only about 1/10th of a gallon will go into the tank before the auto-shutoff triggers in the gas pump.
Cause: Tubes behind the flapper in the gas tank have slipped.
Details: There is a one way flapper type valve at the junction of the filler neck and the tank. This is to allow gas in but not out. There are tubes in the tank behind the valve that can slip down preventing the flapper valve from opening allowing only the filler neck to fill up then slowly seeps by the valve.
Take to your dealer with less than 1/2 tank of gas. The fix is to have the dealer secure the tubes up and out of the way of the flapper valve.
Time in Shop: Several hours.
Repair Instructions: Requires dealer repair.

It has cropped up so many times on PPBB that it's my first answer when anyone has the fuel filling issue.
It's definitely been a problem on the Boxster.

3- Fuel filling problem. This happened occasionally when trying to insert the nozzle into the tank. The nozzle wouldn't go in far enough to open the check valve, thus preventing gas from being pumped in except in dribbles. They found a loose vent line inside the filler neck, and corrected it, also under warranty.

I believe that 986's before 2001 MY did not have the 'powered' flap - so did not have the fuse blowing issues you mentioned.
Cars from 2001 had fueling issues realted to the 'powered' flap, and were primarily caused by the wiring for that circuit being shared with the cellphone power loom, which chaffed near the steering wheel, causing a short and a blown E6 fuse.
The fact that it's a 2000 986 therefore suggests the mechanical issue rather than the electrical issue. The checked fuse also points to the mechanical issue.
If you don't know the year of the car, and need to do a quick check - mechanically push in the fuel return flap, and listen for a click.
Click denotes solenoid.
