K8 MAL

I have recently purchased an Oct 03 Boxster 2.7. Its wonderful except that the gear stick (shifter) seems to be stiff. It is mostly stiff across the horizontal plane between 1-3-5 and across from 2 to 3 in the same plane. The shift is fine from 1 to 2 and 3 to 4.

I have removed the shifter boot to check for lubrication and it all seems fine. What I have noticed is that when you move the shifter toward the 1-2 plane that there is a creaking noice.

Any ideas?

check the trapzoid at the rear of the trans, they get rusty sometimes and casue stiff shifting, for the most part though 5 speed cars do not shift all that smotth
