Default Boxster hard back window

The back window on our 1998 Boxster cracked. I am checking on that company that makes new tops, with the hard back window. Has anyone got any expierence with this product? The top on the car is in pretty good shape, just a cracked plastic rear window. I can get the window replaced for about $300, but the new top with the hard back window is around $1,100, and would last longer, I guess, but I have never talked with anyone that had tried it.

Hi Bill,

I have the GAHH Glass window top on my 01S, I have been happy with it, I had a few minor issues but GAHH and my dealer worked very hard to sort them out.
The quality of the top is very good and the best part is no more folding rear window!

I have a 98 and was wondering if you can just replace the plastic window? Is this done at the dealer? Is it $300 for the plastic only or does that include installation? I just can't see how they'd exchange plastic windows with the way they are sewed in and all.

Marc, thanks, I am probably going to give one a try.

98 Boxster-- That $300 is for a local upholstery shop. He is located just outside of Ft. Campbell, Ky, in Tenn actually. I don't know where Bayside, Wi is, but I can guarantee it is a long way from Tennessee. The way he does it is to take the top off, and sew the new window on top of the old one, then cuts the old one off. It is kinda labor intensive, so you might not get it done that cheap. He did it that cheap for a friend last year, and he may have gone up in price, I haven't checked lately.

He says that you have to sew the new window on top of the old one, or it looks goofy, because it's hard to align in the sewing machine.

That is the reason I want a new top, because as you can from Marc's it looks real factory.

Marc, how did they sort out the issue about your GAHH top having that wrinkle in the side? Was it a difficult fix, and why was there that problem if you don't mind me asking? TIA.

Marc, I'm ordering mine tomorrow. What did your's do that was wrong? By the time I get it here, and have it put on, it will cost between $1,050 and $1,100. Was your's wrinkled or what?

I got my car back today and they ended up replacing the GAHH top with another one to take care of the "wrinkle" issue.
It looks PERFECT now! The dealer, Installar and GAHH really came through to make me happy.
Since I know many of you are interested in getting one I will post a bunch of pics.

Thanks for the upates, Marc. About how much was the install? Despite my efforts to maintain the plastic window on mine, it is getting hard. I've got a teensy crack in one side. It's just a matter of time before I have to replace. How is the rear visibility? I am pushing the limits on height, so I'm a little worried the window is lower.

It was around 1700 or so with the rear defroster wired up. After about an hour of driving I did not even notice the smaller window anymore, I am 6 feet tall.

Is that $1700 including the top? I think I've read $500 to R/R with a new plastic window sewn in, and I think the glass tops are like $1100 or $1200. Thanks for the comment from a 6-footer

1700, Top, labor.. done..

The GAHH top is $1042 on their site but they often run specials.
If my car was not vandilized I would probably still have my plastic window but I have to say I really like the glass window.

Marc, I may have asked you before??
When you put the top down, its all hands off??? i.e. not like you have to chop the back ??
