There is a DIY listed somewhere. Usually all you need is the switch contact pot at the end of the ignition column, two small screws. Parts is 12 too 35 dollars depending on who you get it from.

A shop shouldn't charge more than .7-1 hour labor to install it. It is a simple job.

Porsche has an updated unit. Replacement of the electric section only, is not recommended.
The new part comes with the electric section. It is the complete unit that the electric section goes into.
The problem with the old design, when you went to turn the key in the start position, the unit would allow the key to turn a little to far, thus putting too much pressure on the electric section.
If I remember correctly, the part is about $114. Any Porsche parts dept. should be able to help you.

I just fixed my ignition last week. I bought a $20.00 switch off e-bay. If you want I will give you the link, had it the next day! I would never pay $400.00 to have it done unless I couldnt use a screw driver. Im a pretty big guy, fitting under the dash was my biggest problem. You can do it unless you have some physical disability. Im being serious and Im not making fun of handicap people. It took me a few hours but thats only because I was in the dark and removed way more stuff from my dash then necessary. I didnt have anyone to give me any pointers. If you decide to try it I will walk you through it.
Matt
