Default Tires for Boxster S

My new to me Boxster S seems to need some tires.
What are you guys running? I would like to keep the costs down as the wife is just getting over the purchase of the Boxster! thanks

Marc,

I run Kumo Ecsta(sp) MX tires. I love them. They do make bit more noise, but I don't think you can beat the grip for the price. About $ 750.00 for all four out the door.

What do you do with your Boxster? What are you looking for in a tire?

Assuming you don't need snow tires, I second the Kumho MX's for your situation. Great tire at a good price.

OK. Next questions, how important is tire life to you? How about wet performance? What size rims do you have? Sorry for the additional questions, but there is a slew of tires out there in various sizes, widths, compounds and tread designs. Everyone has thier pet tire, but they also have thier pet requirements. Also, how much are you willing to spend? Hope these questions aid in your thoughts as to what kind of tire you want. Keep the thread going, suggestions are close at hand.

I have the 17" "S" wheels, 205's and 255 on there now, dry Performance is more importnat than wet since I wont drive the car all that much in the rain, I have company cars in addition to my Porsches. I was going to try and keep it cheap but have changed my mind so aroung $900 +/- is fine

Do you know the rim widths?

Since you have other tires for AX/track, I'm assuming that the new tires won't be used in that capacity. So, with dry traction a priority, there are two flavors. R-compounds and non-R compounds. R-compunds generally require some warm-up to reach some reasonable level of traction, while non-R (street) compound tires will generate a significant amount of their traction with little warm-up. My R-compound choices for street use would be Khumo Victoracers, Nitto NT01's, and Yokohama A048's. In street tires I liked the Bridgestone S-03's on my Dodge Stealth TT, but I understand it's being replaced with a new tire. Other tires to look at would be the Falken Azenzis and the Yokohama AVS and Neova's.
