Ok, i'll answer. I do of course, no proof just empirical knowledge.

2000 2.7 stock, 220'ish HP, no dyno sheets.

I re badgedd my car and took the BOXSTER label off and replaced it with 986 letters (Sterling Silver at that).

People always tell me they never heard of a 986 but it looks like a Boxster and how does it compare with a 911. I just say will it is a bigger number.

Like I tell the rice burners, you will own me to the next green light, but I own you after that!

This is not that much different than putting a "Typer R" badge on an Intergra.

That's a cute way of saying "I have a slow car"

Go get some dyno numbers and 1/4 mile times. Then tell us what you have.

This is a rather dumb question. In essence you're asking who has the most powerful stock Boxster, so I imagine the people with brand new Boxster S's probably take it. Of course, each Boxster probably has a little difference in HP, but not a significant difference.

I would be more interested to know who has the most powerful Boxster period. I know there is someone who stuck a Carrera S engine in a new Boxster, so they would have to be close.

Joking aside,

I dont think Boxster owners think in terms of 0 to 60 times and bulk HP, at least I don't. I bought mine for a touring car and honestly, never had it over 130.

Boxster are not stellar accelerators nor tire spinning monsters, but rather the most enjoyable convertible in the world. IMHO

The best time I ever had was cruising HWY 1 from SF to Hermosa Beach, late spring, top down. Turned it into a 3 day event.

So bulk HP and top end speed would have made this trip way to short!

I think what he is asking is what can - or has been done to a boxster to improve the hp? I myself am considering a boxster but right now I have a 20 year old 944 turbo and can smoke/out handle most of the stuff on the road today. I am considering buying a 986 but don't know if I can handle the loss of speed/power. So what are boxster capable of and what must be done to achieve it? (I appreciate your stand but please dont' tell me its a "touring car" - unless thats all it is.) - I'm not ******* on boxsters - just want some hard facts

jean, The boxster is not just a touring car, thats just what I bought it for. (hint: middle aged)
I will defer to other owners who have done performance enhancements as I have done nothing.

Hope you do buy one, they are great cars.

Good Luck!

The Boxster motor is an air pump, just like any other motor. So anything that works on other engines will work on a boxster.

Just a matter of doing it.

Port the heads, headers, free-flowing exhaust, enhanced fuel delivery, etc should yield excellent results.

Nitrous would be the easiest way though.

I don't get that comparison. I mean, a Boxster IS a 986. An "Integra" (I assume that is what you meant, and not something that is an Integra/Integer hybrid ) is not neccessarily a "Type R". So putting a "Type R" badge on a plain-jane Integra is a totally different ball of wax than putting a 986 badge on the Boxster. And for those people who know the internal numbering system at Porsche (just about any enthusiast), it makes sense (and I bet looks pretty cool).

rbennett, did you buy a "968" badge and reverse the last two numbers?

Well he is a "Specialist" so I guess he knows what he is saying?

I purchased them off eBay from a great guy in Athens, Greece. I can get you the info if you want, but he is easy to find on eBay.

I bought them exactly as "986S", of course I left the S off, why be something it's not.

Am going to post pictures later, I have done many mods on this car. None for performance though except for the dual exhaust.

Regards

Well, I really don't know what Fishey is asking either, but on an early Boxster S, you can typically "bolt-on" about 30 to 40 HP with exhaust/intake/chip and wind up with about 290 HP. Of course, a newer 987 3.2L is generating 280 HP, so that's not unbelievable. Beyond that, you would have to go with something more radical like cams or an engine swap since I think anything more is cost prohibitive. For "most powerful", you could also focus on weight/reduction. If you're made of money, Ruf will install you a 3.6L or 3.8L.

Dooooh, I didn't even notice till now that I have a "specialist" under my name!

My problem is, why make people think that you have something else than a Boxter? 99% of the people have no idea the Boxter actually has a number 986 assigned by the factory. The quote "People always tell me they never heard of a 986 but it looks like a Boxster and how does it compare with a 911. I just say will it is a bigger number." suggest exactly that.

You souldn't be ashamed to own a Boxter. I know I wouldn't be.

Besides NO2, bosoting it woudl be the easiest way to increase the power.

I am not ashamed of the Boxster, quite honestly, I thought Porsche putting a plastic badge on the back of the car that broke off everytime I waxed it was, well, cheesy.

I searched eBay for a replacement and saw the 986 sterling silver replacement and said "Aaah Yaa I want that"

I bought the Boxster not to impress anyone but myself, I wanted the best drop top roadster on the market and the Boxster was it!

So Imo000, how many posts did you have to do to become a "Specialist"

I'm trying to work up enought so I can post the damm pictures!

What am I asking is pretty simple, Who has the most powerful boxster? Non-Swap..

So if you turboed/supercharged/Nitrous/boltons and you have had the car on the dyno then post up the numbers. I think the concept of who's car has the most power is one of the easiest out there to answer to alteast some degree.
