Wheel bearing replacement help please.
I have a 99 Boxster, and a rear wheel bearing is starting to make noise. Anyone here ever replace one? Any advice on what to watch out for?
Thanks,
Steve

Over the course of two years, I have lost a front and back wheel bearing in my 2000 2.7 Boxster. Everytime it starts out as a low rumble that increases in loadness with time. The noise is more appearent during hard cornering.
Sadly each time I thought it was my tires and ignored the noise, untill friends that ride with me said something is wrong.
Cost $300 parts and labor at my local Porsche Dealer for each bearing replaced.

Tanks Guys. My story is the same as Bennett's. Started out quiet, then one day with the top up, I thought a tank was following me. Turning up the music helped for awhile, but it's now time to get dirty.

Has anyone done it themselves? I have changed 944 rear wheel bearings, its labor intensive and tricky but not that difficult with the right tools. My rears sound noisy and I plan on doing them both myself. Any tips would be useful, otherwise I guess I have to figure it out myself.

Richard are you sure its your rear bearings making that noise???
If its like my rear bearing when it went out, it sounded like a M1 Abrams tank was following you everywhere

I wouldnt do it at home, if your set on it find a hub shark (or a hub tamer in the otc version) and get an air compressor and an impact and you can do it with out taking the strut off the car
