If the tires are in good shape, folks, this is a good deal for a set of nice looking wheels!

They will fit your Boxter without any spacers at all.
I am located in Stamford CT.

Turbohead do you know what would need to be done to a 99 Boxster to make those fit?

If those tires are from ’02 , they are probably hard and dried out. I take that “factory balanced” means that they are the original tires from ’02. From the picture the tire does look a bit on the old side. Rubber dries and hardens even if it’s not used. The average life span of a tire is around 5 years. Tire Rack often heavily discounts tires that are close to the end of their shelf life.

What is your point ?
Do you want the wheels without the tires because they are to old for you ?

They are not just too old for me, but too old period. My point was to perhaps inform people that are not aware of the fact that tires have a life span regardless of tread condidition. This forum is about sharing information, and that's what I'm doing. Was I incorrect?

Imo000,
You are incorrect.
I normally wouldn't even reply but i'm pissed.

You decided to add your opinion about these wheels and tires which you have no intention or interest in and have not even seen. The insinuation that i was some how misleading people who are really interested these ,stinks!

And for the record
1 Tires age from exposure to UV, like being outside in the hot sun every day for years. Then they dry out, get stiff and eventually crack. this takes some time espesiaespeciallyern high performance rubber which are made with an UV stabilizing compound. If tires weren't safe after 2 or 3 years don't you think there would be regulations by DOT so they couldn't be used?
Stop believing all the hype by ppeople peoplel tires to get you to buy more.

This car was delivered in 03 and the car was a Garage Queen with little usuage andusaget never out side. They Are in Like NEW condition regardless of the way the dust on tread photo came out , and would be good for years.

2. I priced these wheels so low that the tires should be considered free.

I hope this ends this discussion , and allows someone really interested in buying these wheels get a great deal.

You’ve got it all wrong. I have every right to express my opinion, regardless of my buying intentions and I never accused you of misleading anyone. My intention was to inform fellow rennlister and let them make a sound decision based on all the facts.

I never said tires become unsafe as they age. They don’t, but they will loose large portion of their performance because the rubber will harden over time. Older tires, if in good condition, will not fall apart or blow out, they will remain perfectly safe. Only the ability to grip the road will diminish. The UV inhibiters only slow the aging of a tire and that’s why they will retain their performance until they are ~ 4-5 years old. Without the UV inhibitor the tire would last half as long. This is the main reason tires are black in the first place, to resist UV. Rubber will dry out even if it’s not exposed to UV. It will be at a much lesser rate but it will dry out regardless. This is nothing to do with hype or sales propaganda.

If you don’t believe me, do a search on the web and make up your own conclusions. Or better yet, talk to a trained technician at a tire shop.

It takes longer than 4-5 years for tires to age to the point of needing replacement. The 912E came with tires made by TIGAR, which had been stored for years (1976 912E purchased with 78k original miles). Those tires were still driveable for 3yrs after we had the car.

The fact is this is a great deal on a great set of wheels with good tires to boot. IMO is a j#ck#ss and has proven this with some of his other posts recently.

Happy Holidays!
