How does one who is not a dealer get a crack at one of these auctions?
I'm considering a CarreraS or CayenneS in a couple of years.

You need to be a registered dealer. Ask around you local pca region. I'm sure someone in the club is registered. Usually for a fee they will bid on a car for you. Even with the fee, you will still save money.
