Hey folks, Mark from the 993 board here. I have a buddy who is the original owner and is selling his 1997 silver/red Boxster with 29,300 miles. It's in great condition and, to my knowledge, has never been hit, repainted or tracked. It has a hardtop, burled wood shift ****/handbrake lever, aluminum door sills and new tires.

He wants $25,900 (OBO) for it. <edit>Strike that. He's dropped the price to $23,900. Is this a decent price for this car? Too high?

Disclosure: I am receiving zero compensation (okay, he might buy me a drink) for helping him sell the car. Current ad in the classifieds.

used boxster market is pretty saturated, but that price is not too unreasonable. depends on how long he's willing to wait for the right buyer. problem is that you can find decent '00 boxster S's for 30K.

For a single reference point, I bought a 97 boxster 2 years ago w/ 21k mi in similar condition as you have described and same options, but with no hardtop. I paid $21,000 USD and that included all service records, 4 new SO2s, & 1 year remaining on extended warrantee. For that price he is competing against 2.7s and getting close to the territory of high mileage 3.2s. I think your friend’s price is optimistic. but as was said earlier, if he is willing to wait for the right person to come along he might get close to his asking price. Early (all) Boxsters are a true bargain as long as there no mechanical issues. Now is a great time for buyers, lousy time for sellers.

I paid $30K for my 3.2 2000 S with 10K miles last November. A 97 standard 2.5 ith 30K is probably $24,000. An insane bargain for such a car.
some of The 97-99 Boxsters have some porosity issues in the engine block that most informed Boxster philes are aware of.
Rather than waiting (while the car depreciates) for the right buyer I would try selling it in an overseas market. of course I have no idea about going about such things. But I'm sure there is a left hand drive market aching for this car.
I think an 8 year old Porsche in fine condition with low mileage is worth allot more than 30K outside the North America. Maybe try selling in U.S. territory like Puerto Rico or Guam. SOLD!

by the way, this is a very rare and desireable color combination. Someone on the 986forum.com classifieds was looking for one.

The wholesale market at the Manheim high line auctions in PA would only fetch 16-18k for the car. I think he could expect to get 22-23k if he waits for the right buyer. You can get an '00 S for about 31k at auction.

jus kiddin.. its a very clean looking boxster, but i agree with the majority.. maybe the price could drop a few grand?

what I always do is drop it $500 once a week.. if you don't get a few offers, drop it $500 more the next week... that way, if you're not in a rush to sell, you can get the BEST offer for it...

Update: my buddy dropped the price to $23,900 after I read him some of the threads on here.

 

I'm sorry to say his car is not worth more than $20k. Wholesale is probably $17k. At least here in California.
