Default Short shifter

New Boxster S onwer with a question about changing to a short shift kit. Think the Boxster shifter is excellent, if a bit longer than in a Honda S2000, but have read about short shift kit replacements.
1. Do they really make a difference?
2. Are the as easy to install as the ads imply?
2. What brands are recommended?

Thanks.

1. Yes, they make a difference. Short, tight throws...a bit notchy, but I like it. One of the best upgrades you can make for the money IMO.
2. Its pretty easy. Didn't take long at all. Not sure of the exact time..maybe 1 hr to 1hr/30 mins.

I really don't remember, it was a while ago. It was around $200.

I installed the Schnell SSK on my 996(which fits the Boxster) , $159 from vertexauto (board sponsor) it took me a little over 2 hours but again I enjoyed every minute of it, taking breaks to enjoy a beer.

The instructions have pictures. Therefore it's fairly straight forward. The most difficult part is removing the hard palstic gromet. The rest is easy. Let me know if you need one.

I second the B&M shifter (no affiliation). The instructions are well illustrated, and it took me about 90 min. start to finish. As Danny N said, the plastic grommet was the most tricky part. I recommend you wear safety goggles when cutting off the tabs, as they can fly up in your face when they give way.

I also paid about $200 for mine.

Thanks for the responses. Have decided to wait awhile on this event based on advice from a friend in PCA/ DE instructor/shop owner. He said some folks have had problems with short shifters during track events. Said I should upgrade the brake pads and tires first.
