Are porsches just not selling right now?
I have had my boxters s listed with autotrader for 1-2 months now, and I have recieved one phone call on it...
I have sold several porsches in the past, and quite a few other cars, and usually had multiple offers in the first week or two.
I looked at the local porsche dealers sites in chicago, and they have the same cars listed, that thay had 2-3 months ago.
Is the market that bad???

Well, I'm comforted by the fact that it isn't just me! I'm selling 3-4k below the dealers, and no calls...
Odd, I never thought a boxter would be hard to sell - it's a fairly new car!
Anyone else with input...

Rough times for sellers
Automotive News reported a steep decline in sales of open two-seaters for the first six months of 2004, 21% fewer were sold than in the first six months of '03.
I also read (forget where) that 911 sales are down 19.x% and Boxster sales down over 30%.
Stories about Boxsters sitting for long periods without bites are abundant. One of the Porsche mags had an article on it.
Bottom line… this is a great time for buying used and hell for selling. Best bet is to love the car and be in it for the long haul. Either that or lease. It doesn't seem that new-Porsche discounts are that great either due to production cuts. Would think this helps used sales.

I actually just purchased my first Porsche, which is a Boxster S. I found a lot on eBay, and at local or near local dealers. One dealer sent one back to wholesale because it was on the lot for so long. However for me, I was looking for exact options, and color combinations. I found it locally, and have had it for a bit over a week now. I love it, and plan to keep it for many years.
Good luck with selling yours!!!!

Yes, there are a lot out there. They did get a bad rap for the engine problems with the early years and the motorized top problem, every one I talk too mentions that.
I mean when you cant get $25,000 for a 2001 Boxster with lower miles on ebay, you know there is a problem.

I don't know what the "motorized top problem" is, but it seems I have it on mine. My top has failed repeatedly--most recently for the 5th time! So far all has been covered under warranty, but the tonneau cover is starting to look pretty good.
Otherwise, I think used Boxsters are an incredible value.

Sean... Aside from the engine, the top is the most used part of my car... down, up, down, up, down. I'm in an area with a lot of trees so I'm always concerned about sap and birds. Have you had the motor replaced? I'm wondering how long the top motor and mechanisms can possibly last at the rate I use it. Sure is a snap to use though.

A brief summary of my top problems:
On TWO occasions, the electric relay failed. This was a known defect in the 2000 models. But it was an easy fix.
I developed a crack in the plastic rear window, and the whole top was replaced under warranty (April 2004).
Most recently, the top stopped working. I was told the problem was an improperly installed switch (fixed under warranty).
Had the car back from the dealer for a week, and it failed AGAIN. So now I have to schedule another visit to the dealer, etc. etc.
I'm told the tops contain a series of electronic sensors, and if one fails, the whole thing fails.
My hunch is that the motor will be good for quite some time. A weakness in pre-2000 cars were the top cables, which were known to twist and break. But the parts were reinforced in 2000-and-later cars.
Truth be told, sometimes I wish the top were manual! Less weight and no mechanical failures to worry about.

Alabama has the lemon law!
Wisconsin does and so do other states.
If your car required 3 or more fixes during the warranty period, the manufacturer HAS to either refund the full amount of your purchase price or give you a NEW car.
I'd check into it

More cars = more choices, that is what keeps the prices low.

I had the same experience with an '03 Boxster S I was selling. It was listed on Autotrader.com and cars.com for four weeks with no activity. Then I placed it on eBay and it sold in one day under the buy-it-now feature at the same price that was on the other sites.
