Fuel injector for Frankenengine
I’ve rear through most of the posts on this subject and thought I would get the group’s opinion. I have a 2.7L 5 chain engine out of a 01 Boxster going in a 1999 replacing a 2.5L. I have kept the original intake crossover and used it as the front. So that I could retain the cable driven throttle body. For the fuel rail I used a 3.4L rail because it bolts up directly and is a return type. What fuel injector do you recommend? Still running the stick computer with no tune (yet). I don’t think I can run the 2.7l as they go on a returnless system. That leaves me with the 2.5 (no specs found) or the 3.4 injectors? What is your opinion?
Are you certain it is from an '01? or maybe I'm mistaken, but I believe our 01S 3.2 is a return system and shares the same fuel rails, pressure regulator and injectors as the corresponding non-S 2.7 for '01. I think the change to a non-return system occurred in '02, but coincidentally '01 on used the same fuel injectors, so presumably you can use the injectors from the doner engine.
Edit:
You mention 3.4L several times in your post. Are you using 911 (996) parts as well? what year? also the same injectors for the '01 2.7/3.2 (986) are spec'ed for the 3.4/3.6 996.2001-2005.

Oh boy is my memory starting to go! Engine is a 2.7 from an 02. Fuel rail was originally a return less system. When I went to put the 2.5l fuel rail on, the mounting points did not match up. Someone on another forum swapped me a fuel rail that was a return type that bolted up directly to the 2.7 manifold in exchange for my 2.7 rail and injectors. I thought he said it was out of a 3.4 but now I have to go back and check. I’ll update tonight.
