?? For those that have upgraded shifter and parts
I have read lots of threads, never really got a full answer. My shifter (99 Boxster) feels sloppy and has lots of play. I am going to go for the BAD Uniwerks short shifter and aluminum side shifter upgrade..
I read lots of folks saying this is shifter cable ends are worn and various other issue.
I don't want to get into this and have to order more parts. Do I need to replace cables ? What else should be done at the same time. Here is a pic for referencing parts.
Thanks

I’m about to find out for you! Just installed the BAD short shifter and side lever. Waiting on rennline security clips for the shift cables on the transmission side. I know the side lever connection at the transmission is floppy…so we’ll see if this fixes it. If not I’m doing cables.
So far like the Ben auto set up A LOT. It’s replacing a 997 shifter that has way too much side to side play new from the factory.

I just put in a Schnell SSK into my 1998 986 and its a mild workout but pretty simple job and feels good so far. I have been driving it daily now for a week and very happy with the swap. Purchased mine shipped for $180 from Pelican.

As a follow up, the rennline security clips did not fit my 6 speed. I am following up with customer service to see if it’s operator error, but all their pictures show the 5 speed style cables so I’m thinking it wasn’t made for the 6 speed but there site doesn’t say so. Function first has different clips for the 5 and 6 speed.
