Default Boxster s temp gauge not working after installing later engine

I Performed an engine swap on my 2000 boxer S. The engine I installed is also a 3.2l, but from a 2002 Boxster S and. Ever since I installed the engine, the temp gauge does not work.I noticed the light flashes if it’s low on coolant, But the needle doesn’t move. Everything works but the temp gauge. I replaced the temp sensor which didn't fix the issue but I’m thinking it has something to do with programming. The cluster from the donor car is different than mine. Car starts weird and idles little weird. I’m thinking it has something to do with this temp gauge. Has anyone ever ran into this issue ?

Compare the wiring diagrams between the 2. I’ll bet the later one feeds a different pin. Were the sensors the same??

Thank you for helping me ! So I replaced the temp sensor. It was the same exact sensor. I could not find the wire diagrams for the older cluster. The wires are definitely. If I remember right, the clusters were different, and the connectors were different. That was my original thought . it’s either something with wiring or programming issue.

I checked them. They are completely different. Which harness did you use? 00 or 02

Hey, thank you for looking into it. A friend of mine gave me his identityfix and I was able to pull up some wire diagrams. I might be doing this wrong, so be patient with with me please . When I pull up the engine coolant temperature sensor on both years 00 and 02 under engine controls. The wires are blue white brown pink connecting to the sensor on both years. The wiring for the cluster is completely different it seems like you said. On the newer 02 cluster I see a coolant level switch on the older one 00, I see a cooling water temperature sensor. I did the swap a while back. I’m just getting some time to work on the car now and sort it out. I believe I used the wiring harness from my 00.

Did you move the original electrical harness onto the replacement engine, or did you install the 2002 engine harness into your 2000 model car?

Read through this thread... the solution (in my case a 2001 engine into a 2000 S) starts in post #20.

At some point they switched from the 4-pin combination ECU coolant temp sensor/dash gauge sensor to using two separate 2 pin sensors. .
