I just pulled a Boxster engine out of a donor car, locked up ..288K on the clock..The IMS is failed.I cannot say if it's the original, but it sure looks like this was NEVER apart, clutch is pretty bad too

The engine in my green base Boxster has about 106000 miles on it, the IMSB seal was removed during inspection about 8000 miles ago.

I just bought a 2001 Boxster S with 117k miles and the original bearing. It was still good but the seals had failed and from what I have read this is the first sign of failure. When I pulled it out the IMS was full of very black and smelly oil that got trapped behind it.

Got an $800 1999 Boxster with 244k miles and a hole in the engine….. IMS was perfect, but a tensioner went and made a mess……
Put in a used engine (with 80k on it) did the IMS and three tensioners, and the car is back on the road…..
(and a water pump, and shocks, and suspension arms, and a starter, and an alternator)

2000 On Original IMS
I have a 2000 2.7 car with nearly 150K on the clock. It is on a factory replacement engine, which was replaced at 17K miles. That said, it is still on the original clutch and the IMS has not been swapped out of the replacement engine which now has 133K ish miles on it.

I bought my 99 Boxster with 107,000 miles on it with the original IMS but due to fear of failure I replaced it along with a lot of other neglected maintenance items. I now have 117,000 miles on it - 10,000 miles in 4 years - I drive it more now that I've moved to Tucson, AZ.

As far as I can tell, my 2000 Boxster S (3.2L) is on its original IMS bearing with 147k miles currently on the clock. I cannot say that with absolute confidence, but I do have a lot of receipts that accompanied the car including a new transmission, but no record of an IMS bearing replacement. Even the Carfax, which does have a lot of detail in the repairs, does not list IMS bearing as one of the items. So, to my knowledge it is an original bearing.
My attitude about this car has always been that it owes me absolutely nothing, but I will be having the engine swapped to a different engine in the future...so if this one does goes it goes out in a blaze of well-deserved glory!
