Default Picking up my 550!

After much careful thought and consideration, I've decided to trade my '04 Volvo S60R in for a '04 550 edition Boxster S. The Volvo is nice and all, but I don't need the room, and I'd much rather have a car that's more fun to drive. I did some preliminary negotiations with the dealer yesterday, and I'm going in tomorrow to seal the deal. I'm hoping I can get them to throw in a hard-top. They moved down from 61,460 on the car to 58,500 without much negotiation at all on my part. I think I could move him down another $1000, but I'd rather have the hardtop anyway, given I plan on using the car year round.
The car is gorgeous! GT silver/Cocoa Brown. It has the Bose Highend package (#680), no front center console, and roll bars painted in exterior color. The car is #003 out of 1953. I'm quite excited! I plan on getting involved with PCA as well.
I'll be sure to post up some pictures once I pick up the car.

I could be wrong, but they will most likely steal the Volvo. The 550 is a real sweet machine for sure.

I put a lot of miles on my cars, I think the trade-in they're giving me is fair. I already have 16,000 on the Volvo, and I picked it up on Oct 31. I talked to the Volvo dealer, and they'd give me slightly more, but enough to make up for the extra few grand of sales tax I'm saving. I'm sure I could get more money on the open market, but to be perfectly honest I'm too impatient...

Default It is a great car in sooo many ways

It is THE best Boxster I've owned. I've put a Porsche Sport Muffler on and it sounds, goes and handles like a proper P-car. #373

I really want one of these! I love the silver/cocoa combination. This looks like a car to keep for the long term.

Dennis, did you put just the sports muffler or the entire sports exhaust system?

Default PSE

...not quite sure what you mean, but the photo in the techquipment catalog is incorrect. There is only a sport Muffler (exhaust) I think the one that is shown as a Boxster '03/'04 system is actually a 996 system.

I think Charlie want to know if the electrics and vacum lines were hooked up. Not just the muffler bolted on.

Funny how the US section of the Porsche site still shows a 996 sport exhaust, as well as in the Boxster catalog.

Default Oh!

In that case, I just bolted on the Muffler w/o electronics.

I don't know if I'd do it but I have thought about ...

Is it even possible to put a fully functional sports exhaust on the 550? I'd like to check out a car with one first before I decide. I think if it's possible, I might do it at some point.

I can't see why not. The 550 is not any different than any other 2003/04 Boxster S from that respect.

You should hear it first. I have not heard the new one but the original was not exciting for the money.

Yeah, I definitely want to hear it first. It's not that I don't like the sound of the car now. I do, but I think it would be nice a little louder. The way the sound is now, I hear it best when I'm going under a bridge or tunnel. The driver doesn't hear it as well as the people on the street etc.

Of course, there's a fine line, I've had LOUD exhausts before. I wouldn't want it so loud that it becomes a LOUD DRONE at speed. That's why I'm interested in the OFF/ON feature!

Default 550 PSE

I had the old PSE on my '99 and '02 and I can assure you that the new PSE for '03s and newer has a great sound without the noise.....It is not noisy just a great ripping howl. When travelling at a steady RPM you will not be thrummed to death.

Install w/o electronics, unless you just enjoy vacuum hook-ups and electrical connections. I can't see any circumstance that would require toning down.

Should be picking up the car this Saturday. Maybe earlier depending on when it arrives.... I'll take some pics when I pick it up.
I'd be interested in hearing the sport exhaust. The car sounds awesome to begin with, but I agree that it could be a little louder. It'd be nice to still be able to hear the engine over the exhaust a bit too though, hehe. Gotta love those beautiful unmistakably Porsche engine sounds. I've been identifying Porsches by sound since age 2

CharlesV,

Who/Where is your dealer since they were willing to deal on the price of the 550 edition?
