Question 97 Front End Noise After 20 Min of Driving

Can't figure this one out....front end is tight and handling great for first 15-20 minutes of driving my new-to-me '97 Boxster, but then a "thump" starts that sounds like a loose strut...or bushing...or something...I'm no mechanic, that's for sure. After it sits for 1/2 hour or so, it goes back normal. Any help before I take it to dealer and pay 80.00 hr for their R&D??? Thanks so much! Tom

I had a similar problem with 2001 model. When driving over a rough road I would get a rattle in the front. Took it to the dealer, and they said they didn't hear or see any problem. Only then did I realize that it only did it when the car was hot (how the heat from a rear engine car can affect the front suspension beats me). I took it back to the dealer and they replaced "L/F lower control arm (forked)" and the problem was fixed.

Well, after new strut bearing, and a new rack, the dealer finally talked witha Porsche techie and the problem turned out to be TIE ROD ENDS. Quick repair and all is well. We're still working out the R&D done at my expense.
