Default Trunk and alarm ???

New owner questions….

When the trunk catch is released should the trunk lid fully open by itself? (ala mini van)

I didn’t know my new to me 99 base had an alarm until it went off in my driveway just now.
I will assume this was a fluke since it hasn’t done it in the two weeks I’ve owned it.
I’ve studied up on activating and shutting it off (don’t want to be “that guy” at 2 in the morning)
but I’m wondering what will cause it do what it’s supposed to do. A bump? Door handle? Jacking it up? Is it trustworthy? I’ve read that some people have disconnected the alarm horn and that makes me wonder if it’s even worth chancing a false alarm in the middle of the night.

no

do you have, and, if so, have you read your owners manual?

Check the battery. How old is it? A crapped battery will trigger the alarm. If poss use a Ctek or similar maintainer if the car is not driven regularly

thanks. The battery is young and strong but I’ll have it checked anyhow.

This could be caused by a flaky ignition switch. When you lock the car does it not make a noise, honk once, or honk twice?

Thank you for the response.
I cured the problem by trading the car in on a pristine 2014 Boxster base. 😁😁😎
