another spoiler warning light thread
My spoiler light is always on and I cannot manually raise or lower the spoiler with the switch.
I've checked this forum and 986forum.com and can't find what I'm looking for. I'm trying to troubleshoot my spoiler issue and am looking for a step-by-step list of what to check/replace first with the cheapest and easiest possible problems first.
Does that exist?

Spoiler light
I'll be watching this thread. Mine comes on when I go over 72 mph (speedometer says 75) and stays on. Why would anybody think it needed to be red? A soft blue would have been more appropriate.

I put some steps together from various threads below.
Here are the steps to try in order of ease and cheapness.
1. run OBD scan and check for DTCs
2. inspect the fuse (D8) and replace with new 15a fuse if needed (fuse and relay diagram)
3. check relays and switch #3 and #9 of the rear relay (strike fairly hard on each side of fuse before switching)
4. Check connector to manual switch in fuse box
5. check micro switches and replace
I tried steps 1 through 4 today and still had no luck but had 2 new things happen.
- when I switched the relays and tried the manual switch I could hear the relay click but nothing happened with the spoiler
- I was able to manually pull the drivers side of the spoiler up with my hands but couldn’t move the passenger side at all so I think it may be physically stuck somehow. I put a lot of wd40 on the actuator so maybe that will free it up for tomorrow.
Does anyone know what it means if one side of the spoiler will move freely up and down but the other won’t.

My 2004 started this and it turned out to be the connector on the back of the gauges. The locking mechanism broke and allowed the connector to come loose just a bit. Green connector on the newer gauge style.
Ended up replacing the connector.
My red light would come on at 75mph. Wouldn't go up or down manually.

I've pulled off the trunk carpeting and took a look at the spoiler again. The passenger side will not move freely after I remove any impediments from its movement.
Is there a way to manually release the actuator/piston/driving mechanism so that I can move it with my hands? Can I remove the battery, unscrew something, etc?
Passenger side will not move much at all
Driver side will come up a few inches with my hands

I've taken mine apart and cleaned all the crud in the tubes that the cable goes through to move the arms up/down. If you attempt this, do not remove the cables from the plastic rack gears - the cables are spring loaded and while it is possible to compress the springs and get them re-inserted, it is really difficult. So best to put tape around the cable at this end to hold it in place. While dirt can gum up the cable from sliding in the tube freely, the cables have a plastic sleeve around them and after 20+ years sitting in a bent tube, they take a set. I believe this is what is the main issue. I have an extra spoiler assembly and have been thinking about removing the plastic sleeve to see if this improves the situation.
