Default Finding Paint Code from VIN?

My hood got damaged, so need a new hood -- or a clean one with factory paint that's less likely to fade (L3AZ, ocean blue, offered from 1997-2000 I think).

I have the the lead on a couple of blue Boxsters from a reputable recycler. He doesn't have the time/resources to go out and check the paint code but could give me the VINs.

Any idea whether/how I can get the paint codes from the VINs? Hoping that maybe someone has the VIN-->Paint Code "decoder ring" like the super helpful person on this forum with the radio serial number-to-code converter.WP0AA299XX5621534

As far as I know the code is not in the VIN. If you don't have the label on the front trunk lid you can go to VIN Analytics and buy a document with much of the information from the factory. Less than $20 and it includes the paint code.

The paint code should be on the frunk, drivers inside the frunk under the carpet-lining. At the vertical wall, close to the place but lower, where you would release the headlight assembly from.
At least my 2001 Boxster paint code is there.

Thanks Pilot4fn.

Unfortunately, the recycler where I found these has a big operation and doesn't have the time/resources to look at the hood to get the paint code off the underside of the hood.

But he had the VINs at hand on his computer, so that's all I have to work with.

As stated, paint code is not in the VIN. You can call a dealer, and they can look it up, based on the VIN.
