Default Backward Alarm?

Random thing happened the other day with my alarm beep after locking the car. It’s switched to beeping when UNLOCKING the car. The key I have never had working buttons so I’ve always locked and unlocked using the key.

Any ideas how or why this switched? Very weird.

you have an error code in the alarm system. Usual suspect is that the center console isn't closed. Need a durametric/piwis hooked up to know what the error code is

Ahhh gotcha. Makes sense since I recently replaced the shifter with a short throw. I didn’t realize the center console could cause that.

As stated, that's the normal warning that you have something unlatched when you left the car. P cars have had this feature for many years, and its still the same today on the newer models.

Most times its the lid to the center console that isnt fully closed, but it could be anything that isnt fully closed or latched when you lock it. There is nothing to worry about or codes to clear. Just go back and check everything if you hear it
