Default 1997 Boxster shift linkage question

This has probably been addressed here before....if so, sorry in advance. I just picked up a 1997 Boxster with a manual transmission linkage problem at the transmission. The plastic bushing on shift rod (986 424 931 05) has aged and broke. The rest of the linkage appears to be ok, however Porsche discontinued that rod. It would be such a simple fix. My understanding is that I need to update the entire linkage assembly including the cables to a 1998 and later design. Does someone have an old linkage rod laying around they would like to sell? (986 424 931 05) Or do I need to replace / update the complete linkage assembly? Or another fix idea....?

I have figured out my own problem....here is my solution. Hope it helps someone down the road. I located / purchased the shift linkage piece from Tarett Racing. (part number # PTLNK-01) The problem is the "98 and later Boxster's the ball sockets are the same diameter. On the '97's the lower ball socket is a smaller diameter. I found that a 70"s 911 throttle linkage is the same size as the smaller ball. I retapped the threads of the throttle linkage ball socket to match the Tarett shift linkage rod. The Tarett rod is 6mm x 1.0. I adjusted the length to match and now I am back in business without updating the complete linkage assembly. Send me a like if it works for you..... thanks for looking.

Good post. My 986 is long gone but info like this is always useful to someone, particularly when you’ve worked it out yourself so can guarantee the fix

HI, I know this is an old post, but I have the exact same issue right now. Could you share any more information on your solution?

For anyone with this same issue I ended up making the same solution for about $20, and has worked great
