I agree with your rationale that you can find a better car to start with than the one you originally posted about. there's a ton of them out there. good luck
same here; I like to tinker in the garage; it's one of my ways of getting away from reality

My logic was that since there was no service history, I would need to assume that I should plan to immediately change:
- IMS Bearing
- Rear Main seal
- Clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing (if applicable)
- change all fluids and filters
- replace tires
- IMS Bearing
- Rear Main seal
- Clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing (if applicable)
- change all fluids and filters
- replace tires
However: Dealerships. They have to make their money. Look for a private sale.
