Default 2003 Boxster 986

Hi there,
I am new in this forum, I have 2003 Porsche Boxster, last week have oil pressure light on. Took off oil pan find out little piece of metal then remove both of the suction oil pumps and of them was destroyed then I pulled engine off of the car to get into oil pump when I pulled oil pump The oil pump gear was destroyed and hex drive pin broken in half. I wonder if anyone experienced something like this. The pictures shows metal pieces came out of the engine I wonder where they belong?

The metal pieces in the first pic do not look like they came from anything in the engine I can imagine. They also do not look like they have been through an oil pump. If something went through the oil pump gears the something will be in the oil filter housing oil, at least. And probably too big to be actually caught in the filter folds.

It is very possible the metal pieces you found in the oil pan were there from day one and played no role in the oil pump damage. The pieces mostly look like machining swarf.

One of the metal piece came from the oil pan and the other one was stuck in oil pump gears and oil filter has some little metal shavings. I am ordering new suction pump and new oil pump to replace. I could not think of anything like those pieces in engine too just want to make sure. Thanks for responding.

One more thing I forgot to mention the metal pieces are not aluminum I tried with the magnet they magnetized.

https://lnengineering.com/products/c...hex-drive.html as it is a known point of failure. Can't help with the rest of the issues.

First piece looks a lot like a busted and smashed piston pin retaining circlip. I can’t imagine how it would get into the pan though unless an extra one was lost in the engine during assembly.

That’s what I thought too, but I think the piston retaining circlip a bit smaller than the pieces came out maybe I am wrong.
