Question Engine Mount Center Part

Hello all,

Is it pretty easy to replace the center part of the engine mount? This is the little rubber core that pelican sells for $38. I'd much rather replace that then the $170 mount. I have a vice at home, would I need a special tool?
Thanks!

If you have a socket big enough to push on the metal rim of the insert, it isn't too hard. However, you'll need to make sure your vise opens far enough -- you'll need room for the socket on one side and spacers on the other side (to make room for the insert to come out).

Installation is the reverse of removal, just make sure to align the insert properly and to also press it in straight or it will get stuck.

It should be done at a machine shop. When I had mine done, it was $30 to press the old one out and press the new one in.

Harbor Freight press and done. You're still spending less and have the press to use in the future.

I've moved enough in the past 20 to realize that big tools that I rarely use are not worth the trouble. Kinda like the Drill Press that I just "HAD TO HAVE." And used stuff has almost no value. Easier (much) and cheaper to either get the assembled one, or have a shop press the new mount in. Space and clutter are a real problem.

I did mine with a vice and a long pipe....I'll never do it again.....if I knew I could have brought it to a shop to get it pressed in I would have. Do yourself a favor and get it pressed in at a shop. V
