Ray S,

I'm afraid you missed the point of my posts completely. My intention was not to **** anyone off, or start an argument. I'm pointing out that there's not any one "weakness" that the Boxster has - it's that Porsche has designed the car according to a different PHILOSOPHY than before. It is built cheaply by Porsche standards, when are you people going to admit that.

Very interesting posts. In the end, I have to agree with Greg. Yes, quality of newer porsches have indeed slip and become more Japanese like. Hope that will be changed soon.

Whatever that mystique was I'd say it's safe to say it's all gone even now. How many boxsters have they sold? Isn't it into the hundreds of thousands of now? Not much "mystique" in a car that there's 5 of on every block. People still seem to be buying Porsche's like hot cakes (and now it's that awful truck). Maybe the reason people buy has changed too.

Yeah, ya know I gotta agree. It's like back in the 60's Porsche put out a solid car. The 911 was a quality piece. Then in 70,71 they had the gaul to put out this car, the darn windows were plexi glass, there really were no door panels to speak of. Heck to close those doors was like swingin tin. To put the window up and down you used a piece of leather strap! There was no door handle on the inside to speak of.
Yeah they cut about 500 lb's but the quality!!!

mackgoo, you honestly think Porsche's reason for making the boxster with cheap leather was weight savings? Why don't you get your head out of the sand and face reality - the 3.2 Carrera weighed less than any Boxster, and the quality was excellent, the leather was top-notch, etc. So don't give me that line about weight savings...

What was the horsepower?

That's about 100 lbs lighter than a Boxster S and very close to a Boxster.

Considering the Boxster is a convertible I think the weight is pretty light all things considered.

mackgoo, sorry but I'm going to be visiting these posts less frequently as I'll be travelling for the next couple weeks - as far as weight, I believe the early 3.2s like mine are around 2650 stock, mine right now is around 2400 and still has most interior components, and still has A/C. In any case, my point was that they're the same weight/heavier, and are built more cheaply. I wish they weren't, but they are.
