Default 996 gauge cluster in 986 .. ??

I've read 2 different how to's on this. One said it requires some type of programming. While the other said , you just plug a wire in for the oil pressure.

Does it require programming?

Thanks

Pretty well plug and play.If you don’t have obc enabled on your car, you might want to switch it on with a Durametric or other Porsche software. Check out the Pelican site or Wayne Dempsey’s book 101 projects cor you Boxster for detailed info. You’ll need to change out the oil pressure sender for the 996 model which has 2 functions: pressure gauge and idiot light.

The good news is... I have all 4 stalks and the OBC is already activated.

Now on for a deal on a 996 gauge that is close to my miles

I recently did this upgrade. Found a 996 cluster on Ebay. The faces were black while my 986 S faces were white. Found, again on Ebay, a set of white vinyl faces. They were easy to install but did require some disassembly of the cluster (very simple). I then had the odometer changed to match my 986 cluster. It was done at Odo-pro.com. Very quick and inexpensive ($89). They also changed the vin# in the new cluster to match the car which may be important in the event that you have any work in the future done at a shop using the Porsche system (PST2, etc). I'm not sure that is really necessary but it made sense to have it done with the odometer work (and no extra charge).
